But theres no reason your Italian-threaded bike shouldnt have the ability to run a 30mm thru-axle crank on super-slick Ceramic Bearings. Rotors commitment to compatibility means it has a solution so that every crank they make can be installed on just about every bottom bracket you can find. Here, they are adapting Italian-threaded bottom brackets to their BB30 cranks.
Italian-threaded bottom brackets are also known as ITA. They have a 70mm shell width and a 34.6mm inner diameter. Both the drive- and non-drive-side sides are right hand-threaded (lefty-loosey, righty-tighty). For modern-thru-axle cranks, the bearings sit inside external cups. Most of these cups are designed for 24mm thru-axles. This Rotor bottom bracket allows for 30mm thru-axles.
Rotor makes both the 3D30 and 3D30+ cranks with 30mm thru-axles. This bottom bracket allows you to install those cranks. It also allows for the installation of BB386 EVO cranks, pretty much only made by FSA.
The kit consists of two machined, threaded 7075-T6 cups. Inside the cups sit hybrid bearings with silicone shields. The races are steel, the balls ceramic. Ceramic balls are rounder, harder, smoother, and lighter than steel. They run with less drag and need less care. A conventional external-cup bottom bracket tool should be used to install the cups.
